FTP Help

Feb 2, 2006 8:57AM PST

I am currently using Flash to design my webpage and when I go to copy the files to the FTP it only opens as read only. I was told it could be because I am using a Powerbook and the instead of typing in ftp://mywebsite.com I would have to use something different. Has anybody else had this problem?

You have flash files (swf) and you upload them to a FTP server, but on the site they are only read-only?

Well when I open the FTP site it is read only. I had done the website previously in Front Page. Now I'm redesigning it on a mac with the program Flash and when I open the FTP site with Safari it won't let me delete or add files saying that it is read only.

it's that way when a program, other then the one you uploaded it with, is trying to change things on the FTP server. Download the files locally, edit them, reupload them with your new program... and just keep doing that. This should also allow you then to change them online... to open them on the server. When you view the files in ftp://domain.com then they are always read only, but if you open them with a program, you should be able to overwrite that.
