Frustrated-Pn58b860 hook up to sony str de635 Help!!!

I have many components and noe seem to work.My solution has always just go buy a new one- wife said no more!
Plasma-Pn58B860 (HDMI)--Hd Directv (HDMI)--Philips DVD (HDMI)
Sony str de635 No HDMI. all I want is to listen to 5.1 on dvd movies.
I have tried samsungs and sonys way with no success-called both companies with no luck. I have tried so many different ways that I am now more confused. Any help will be very appreciated.
