FRUSTRATED: can someone introduce my computers?!

Jul 19, 2004 2:53AM PDT

I took down all firewalls.
I made sure they used the same workgroup name.
I made sure there were shared files enabled.

My laptop recognized my desktop, but my desktop didn't recognize my laptop.
That is: the desktop appeared in the laptops workgroup folder, but the desktop did not reciprocate.

I started over. Ran the Network setup wizard again, because its the only thing that seems to work: albeit only halfway.
I ran it on both computers.
The situation reversed.
Now the desktop has the laptop in its workgroup, but the laptop wont recognize the desktop!

Help?
Can someone make my computers get along?

Explain yourself. Disabling ZoneAlarm has, for me not been sufficient. I have to uninstall it.

BUT!!! Without the OS in your posts, I can't offer any more clues than what we read about at http://www.wown.com

I was crafting the reply and you added the OS after your first while I was asking about such.

Disabling the firewall is not enough. http://www.wown.com has all I would need to know to get this working.

On your part, you would describe in excruiating detail what firewall you had and what you did to disable.

Your posts are too light.

xp home on the desktop.

linksy router, DSL modem,

I find most still work after "disable" and I can't make the network work.

I dropped this hint a few times.
