frozen cursor, software problem?
May 14, 2015 8:50AM PDT

Disconnect your external hard drive.
Sometimes a frozen cursor relates to playing videos on sites such as Youtube or from downloading movies. Note the url where your cursor freezes.
Choose your "best" browser and update it.
Control Panel-> Personalization->Change desktop icons -> Click on Restore Default
Control Panel -> Personalization->Change mouse pointers->Mouse Properties->Pointers ->Scheme-> Choose Windows Black (system scheme)
Control Panel -> Personalization->Display -> Change to Windows Classic theme
Control Panel -> AutoPlay-> Click "Use AutoPlay for media and devices" -> Reset all defaults-> Save
Control Panel -> Flash Player -> https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ -> do not accept McAfee -> Install Flash now
Control Panel -> Device Manager->Mice and other pointing devices->Right click->Scan for Hardware changes->Update driver software->Power Management->Click "Allow this device to wake the computer"
Go to http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner->Free Download->Click "Run Ccleaner"->Click "Registry"->Scan for Issues->
->Fix Selected Issues
Restart computer->choose safe mode with networking->does problem still exist?
If problem does not exist then Restart Computer->Normal Mode
Connect external hard drive.

- What's a desktop cursor?
- Where should that text appear? What text?
- What cables and ports did you change around?

Re: desktop

- You can't type on the desktop, and the desktop has no pages. So that's quite OK no text appears in a page on the desktop.
- You can't even type into a webpage if it doesn't have a form like this box.

Next question:
- Can you get into the BIOS setup and does it accept input from the keyboard?

checked the cord on it for damage, like a dog or cat bite mark? Shook or vacuumed crumbs out of it?

So you can't type a text on the web.

That might be a browser issue more than a cable, keyboard or external drive issue.

- What browser are you using?
- if you try another browser (like Firefox or Chrome or Internet Explorer), do none of them work correctly?
- Does it work in IE Safe Mode (http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/19/SLN265764/EN tells how to that)?
- How do you type your posts here if it doesn't work?

James means: didn't you dog or cat damage the keyboard cable?

My wife long ago had a rabbit that loved nibbling cables. So search for rabbit bite marks also Happy .

This forum is for serious people who seek the assistance of other serious, sensible and mature adults who take service seriously and not to abuse it, and wasting time.

Why are you a member ? what is your motive to be member? you come across very childish.
Is questionable as why you would respond in this way.
Your approach to respond in this way, it does not show the answer to my question rather it shows you to have a destructive and dysfunctional personality.
You don't belong in a forum , look for social media and link up with people who would welcome your stupidity approach.

However, I did not see the 4 questions, after the answer I sent about ''typing on desktop'' these questions were not there at the time.
insteadYour replied about another member James immature comment. so therefore, your comment , which you should not have interfered , as I questioned 'him' , besides this, instead of continuing the trail of the initial question I sent /

See the same issue. I know some folk demand a problem get fixed without answering questions or getting involved.

A long time ago I pulled over to help someone change a tire. After we found the spare they went and sat in the driver's seat to await the work to complete.

That happened.

Never heard a reason why they did that.
