Frontpage 2003

Jul 25, 2004 4:16AM PDT

I publish a web site using Microsoft Front Page 2003. I am running Windows XP Home SP1 on a Dell P4 2.6 w/ 512 Mb Ram. The site is hosted elsewhere.

I have done this for a long time (first w/ Frontpage 2000 and now with Frontpage 2003 for the past 8 months), with no issues. However, recently I can't seem to update the hosting server. Whenever I "Publish Web Site" it begins to send the updates to the server, but after about a minute or two I receive a message "The Server Connection Timed Out". I can view the web site fine, I can surf the web and get my e-mail fine, I can ping the site, etc. The only issue seems to be with getting my web updates to the server. I have checked w/ the hosting company, and they aren't aware of any problems on their end.

I am looking for suggestions, and things I can try and test to get this going again.

The usual is some update to firewall or such. For now try to FTP your files in.

What firewall can be in play here?

I did want to let you know that I have found the problem, and corrected it. For some reason I had one specific file (corrupted?, too large?) that caused the server connection time out issue. Once I recreated that file, everything is back to normal!

I learned this through the long process within Frontpage of right clicking on each file in my website and publishing each one individually. A long process, but that's when I realized that this one specific file was the only one that caused the time out message.

I had this same problem all afternoon one day. Finally called my ISP, he quickly let me know that I had filled my limit of storage.
Appropval of $3.00 for additional space and I was on my way again.
