Question

FrontPage 2002 Question/Problem

Jan 6, 2013 10:41AM PST

I am having problems adding new pictures to my website. On my computer they look fine but when I upload to my hosting site they become white squares with an X - when clicked on a small thumbnail picture shows up and it cannot be enlarged - hosting company says nothing wrong on their end. I am using all the same settings as my previous pictures on the site which work fine. I have in the last 6-9 months some strange things happen and I am also wondering if I should look into upgrading my program - I'd be interested in some thoughts - I'm retired and I do not want to learn any complicated programs at this point but I do want to maintain my site for a while longer and I do have plans for adding a lot of pictures/data to it. Thank you!!

Be sure to ask your host if there's an issue on their end and your FP2002.

I did ask my host and there is no issue on their end but they can't help me regarding any issues with FP 2002.

FP support is clearly going away. The front line support folk are rarely in the know but let's say it's your machine. Did you uninstall, reinstall and try the usual with the antivirus+firewall off? And does it work on another PC or not?

If it always worked before

and you didn't change anything, then it must be your host. It is understandable if they dropped support for FrontPage 2002, even if the person you spoke with doesn't know about it.

That said, take a look at a WordPress demo (http://www.opensourcecms.com/scripts/details.php?scriptid=8Cool and specifically, take a look at the demo admin page. Does it seem complicated?

I'd recommend using a CMS like that to manage your website in the future. It's pretty easy to setup and use, and it does most of the work for you, especially managing pictures/galleries on a website.

Almost any host will support it and it's free to use.

pictures problem

They still have the FB extensions and I've downloaded them again. Nothing has been changed on my computer. I took a brief look at WordPress a few months ago (I have had this problem about 5 months). Do you know if I'm limited as to my pages or size of site? My website is www.stbernard-stbla.com - can you look to see if you think it will work in WordPress - or suggest another one---the site will grow a lot as I am now ready to work on the cemetery page which will include a database - I want to include a picture of each grave/tomb with a listing of the burials and our cemetery is over 200 years old so it will have a lot and I'll be continuing to add pictures on the pictures page as we have activities. Thank you for your help.

As far as WordPress

is concerned, there are no limitations in terms of pages or size (i.e. the limit is very, very large). Of course you're limited in terms of space that you use on your hosting plan, but if your website has no issues now, you won't with WordPress either. WordPress itself takes very little space and to give you some perspective, it's about the size of one high quality picture.

One thing I know for sure is once you work with a CMS, you'll never go back. Uploading pictures, managing galleries and pages, and even creating some dynamic stuff, will never be easier.

Thanks - I will certainly look into WordPress. The guy who now does our official church website also suggested it and offered to help me with if I needed and now that the holidays are over I will have more time to spend on it --- funny being retired and I'm still trying to find time to do everything.
