Frontpage 2000 will not open files

Dec 20, 2004 12:10AM PST

I recently reformatted my "C" Drive and reloaded Windows ME, MS Office & several other applications. Although this has overcome a number of previous problems and resulted in improved performance, I have been unable to open my reloaded web files in FP2K. I get the following messages:

1) "Server Error: Cannot open file "C:\My Documents|My Webs\Sample Site\_vti-pvt\service.lck" for writing."
2) "The file "file:///C:/My Documents/My Webs/Sample Site/index.htm" is not found".

If I double click on the page files within the web document the file will open in FronPage "Preview" but not in "Normal" or "HTML".
Additionally, Frontpage will not allow me to create a new web or new page.

Any help with this problem will be much appreciated.

Do such files and directories exist?

You didn't tell.

Also, FP2000's installer will not install all extensions and after this many years you may have forgot what all you installed.

VTI_PVT Folders
Dec 20, 2004 9:37PM PST

All files do exist. Upon further investigation it seems that the problem related to the files contained within the "\vti_pvt\" folder being "Read Only". I have removed the checks from the "Read Only" boxes for all files in these folders & the problem seems to have disappeared.

Thanks for your help.
