Front page problem

Apr 21, 2012 12:07AM PDT

I have had a problem getting the forward and backward arrows to work on the front page, that shows the five topics of review. These are the five items near the top left side of the main page. I click on the arrows and nothing happens. Can't see the other 4 items, only started happening in the last 2 days. Don't know if it is on your end or mine. Thanks for any assistance you can give me to fix the problem if on my end.

The most likely candidates for home page are:
- forums.cnet.com
- www.cnet.com.
but maybe you mean another one?

If I can type them, why can't you?

Since you posted on a forum called "Forum feedback" it was a reasonable assumption you meant the forum home page (forums.cnet.com).

Do you mean the backward and forward button in the gray bar below (currently) Life Improvement, Headphones for your commute? The ones that have class="carouselNext" and "carouselPrev" if you look at them in the webdeveloper screen (F12) of Internet Explorer?

As far as I can see (but that's a very partial view, because I didn't write that page) it call some Javascript that changes the picture. It works with me, so it's not an issue of the site. So, if it doesn't work with you, it's an issue with you. Could be your browser or a setting or add-on in your browser, something in your account, some feature of your security software. Very difficult to find out.

Things that might help to find it:
- try it with another browser (Firefox and Chrome)
- try it in another (new) Windows account
- try it in Safe Mode
- try it with your security software disabled
- try System Restore back to a few days ago
But none of these is guaranteed to help.

It is on the cnet home page that shows the led lightbulb as the first item. The gray bar with the forward and backward arrows. They work in Firefox and Opera, so it must be a problem with my internet explorer setting. Thank you for the suggestions and will try remainder.

I found the problem, somehow the site was added to the compatibility view settings in the tools option. I removed it and they are working again. Thank you again for your assistance.

I asked the forum manager to contact the team that's responsible for the CNET home page. Can you help them by telling if you use the 32-bit version of IE or the 64-bit version (Window 7 64 bit comes with both)?
