Once home, I got out of the USMC, and lived back home had to get a job, in the 70's. Things weren't too bad as I lived with the parents but once I got a new job in Ann Arbor, a college town. I had no idea that rent/eases were that much and way over anything back home and generally at least 50% more or even twice for similar living. I did have a "Chevy van" which I finally decided to live out of. The whole idea was to save enough in order to pay 1st, last and deposit in order to even get a place. That lasted about 1yr. and finally moved in and that's the most cash I ever had until then. It wasn't that bad until "winter arrived". Having being recent USMC, living out of a van wasn't that harsh to me but winter was an incentive for me. I had my system and made the best of it but once I found a place, life was better as well being a member of the racquet ball club plus handball. While, I didn't live in a milk truck I had lived in quadset huts and a rack for my enlistment and other humble lodgings. Make no thought I was prepared for van living, but allow me to explain, it was the 70's and I had converted it to what was expected on such a van.
