Question

from iphoto to photos app

Unfortunately I upgraded my OSX system from snow leopard to yosemite, which meant i can no longer use iphoto. I made a time machine back up before I upgraded. The time machine back up also failed to save my iphoto library, a whole year of pics are missing as well as my albums. When the upgrade was done, in the new photos app several photos are missing as well as my albums
How can I get my original content of my original iphoto library back ?before I was stupid enough to upgrade. I lost the function of the most important feature of my mac.

Answer
Unless you have done something drastic to "fix"

this received loss, then everything is exactly where it used to be.

Take a look inside your applications folder and you will find iPhoto, alive and well, and responsive to a double click.

Photo's and iPhoto both use the same database

Let us know how you get on with using iPhoto again.

while on the subject,

you might want to check that Time Machine is actually functioning at all.

There is no reason why TM should not have captured your iPhoto library, each and every time it ran.

Even genius bar employees admit there could be a problem

there could be a problem with the new photos app. for starters most of the pics are in the wrong order, although i have the majority of them. The albums I made , which i had printed out as books, are completely gone. Apparently it has happened to other people as well.
I only made one big time machine back up (march 2015) before i upgraded. and the iphoto library stops at september 2011. all the pics after that date were not saved.
