Mar 8, 2004 11:25AM PST

After booting to C: command line prompt the CD-Rom is unavailabe for reloading Windows 98SE. Theres only one harddrive with one partition. Have typed in D: E: F: and stays at the C: prompt.

Get a boot diskette from http://www.bootdisk.com and notice what it uses for the CDROM driver and what it used in config.sys and autoexec.bat to get disk letter.

You don't get a disk from www.bootdisk.com, you download a program to change an empty diskette to a boot diskette. So get a diskette and run the program.

If you do, you'll find a config.sys, an autoexec.bat, a cd driver (ending with .sys) and mscdex.exe on the diskette.
Edit and copy the like on your hard disk, you will have cd-rom access after booting from it. And don't forget to undo it if no longer necessary. All in all, it's better and easier not to change the hard disk and run from the boot diskette.

Hope this helps.

Kees,
I downloaded from diskboot.com to a floppy, however i can't open the floppy to read any files. Also downloaded Dr. J's, allbootdisks.com and Cerelli all with the same results. Keeps asking "insert a floppy to write". I borrowed a Universal boot disk for Win 95/98 Ver 1.2 and i can open the files with this disk. What am i looking for? I tried this in the computer with no success also. I get the C: prompt but no access to the Rom.?? Help....

"I downloaded from diskboot.com to a floppy,"

Errp! That's not how that's used. For example, Win98se.exe would be downloaded to your hard disk, run and then it would make a new diskette.
