On the Apple OS X the most damage I've seen is that someone CHOOSES to install malware. Leaking your email address is what it is and has the same damage (you get spam) as everyone else.
For now you should use the same advice I see all over and NEVER INSTALL anything that folk tell you to in an email or web site. The SCAM I KNOW OF is "install this to watch our videos."

A friend's brand-new PC was hacked, and it sent a message about an "important" message from Google Docs to a lot of us. It was a very effective phishing message, and for the first time in my computer-using life, I clicked on the link in the message and followed the direction to give my email address (I blush for shame). I don't know Google Docs, so I thought that was standard operating procedure.
Anyway, that led to an ad for Remax but nothing else that I can see. Does anyone know anything about this? How can I find out whether my Mac (Macbook running OS 10.5) has been affected? And if so, what do I do next? I tried to find an answer but was not able to turn up anything.
I feel so foolish but not so much so that I needed to hide my fault from the rest of you. I also wanted to warn you all that this is going on.
Thanks for any help you can offer me.
