Frequency in Europe

Oct 11, 2004 11:00AM PDT

Does anyone know which GSM frequency is used around Europe?
I noticed there are 4 or 5 different frequencies. 800, 850, 900, 1800 and 1900.
Which ones are needed for a truly "World Phone"?
Thanks.

I work for verizon ( i know more about CDMA) so im not too fond with GSM stuff. But have you heard of " QUADBAND "? I think that would be the BEST ONE SO FAR for a TRULY World phone.

U.S. is under the 850 & 1900 frequencies...Cingular uses both, T-Mobile is just under 1900 in the USA as of now. Europe uses 900 and 1800...mostly 900 in most area's, but you'll find 1800 in all the major metropolitan cities. I agree with the previous poster...a quad-band phone would serve your needs both here and abroad, unless you sign-up with T-Mobile...then a tri-band phone of 900/1800/1900 would do.
