Question

Freezing on every boot, how to troubleshoot?

Aug 10, 2019 9:59AM PDT

I am unable to boot my PC after uptating motherboard and CPU. I will either get stuck on initiating atuomatic repair, where it freezes every time, or go straight to BSoD saying MACHINE CHECK EXCETION, where it stays at 0%. If I boot from a USB installation medium I also freeze at the setup screen.

How can I troubleshoot the issue when I am only able to access BIOS? All parts of the build are recognised by the motherboard.

Changed the motherboard and expected Windows to work. Nope. Does not work most of the time.

Also, may invalidate your Windows license.

Please folk, don't leave out details. For instance if your motherboard FAILED you can save 100 bucks for a new Windows License unless it's a Dell or such. That OEM license is tied to the motherboard so you're out 100.

-> Nothing is actually broken here. You reinstall Windows and if the hardware is good, it works.

How do I reinstall?

That's what I tried with the USB medium. How do i boot from it and do a clean install of windows if I freeze during the installation part?

That freeze during install.

I worry here you left out some detail. How could it freeze during install if you had not booted your W10 install and repair stick? That is, it appears you know how to boot from it and yet you ask. SO WHAT IS THE REAL QUESTION THERE?

As to the freeze during install that points to hardware issues or the target drive is iffy. At the bench I get a shop drive, blank that and put that into the PC under repair and try again. Remember that I take it you can use Google and know your way around the ways of Windows. In short, I do not write step by steps as those are on the web. Broad strokes or directions only.
