Freeze-up!

Mar 3, 2004 9:53PM PST

I am running "Windows XP POR." on Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Time after time my computer Freezes up and I have to wait up to 5 min. or more before it decides to do something.

Is there a program that I can down load for free to solve this problem? Please send responce to: brionh1_2003@yahoo.com

1. "I am running "Windows XP POR." on Microsoft Internet Explorer."

Internet Explorer runs on the OS, not the other way around. A minor point, but worth thinking about what runs on what.

UNLESS "POR" is some ADD-ON that you need to tell more about?

2. "Time after time my computer Freezes up and I have to wait up to 5 min. or more before it decides to do something."

There is a noted issue with fields in IE. Read this one about that -> http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=251787 Somewhere is a newer version of the article, but I'll leave that up to you to find. The fix is similar but limited to just the "Clear Forms and Passwords Information in the AutoComplete History" section.

3. "Is there a program that I can down load for free to solve this problem?"

Never found one.

4. "Please send responce to: brionh1_xxxx@yahoo.com"

Posting your email address in public forums is a bad idea.

Three things. . .
Mar 3, 2004 10:51PM PST

1. The article [Q286350] discusses Autodump+ (ADPlus.vbs) a new tool from Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) which is a console-based Microsoft Visual Basic script that can be used to troubleshoot any process or application that stops responding (hangs) or fails (crashes).

2. The article [Q308427] states that an "event" is any significant occurrence in the system or in a program that requires users to be notified or an entry be added to one of three logs. The Event Log Service records application, security, and system events in Event Viewer that can help identify and diagnose the source of current system problems, or help predict potential system problems.

3. The article [Q314084] describes how to gather more information about an error message that appears on a blue screen but may not provide conclusive answers and may only point you to another problem. Using Pstat.exe, a Resource Kit utility run from the command line, you are given a picture of the processes and drivers that are currently running. By using the starting address in the "LoadAddr" column, you can match the exception address to the driver name nearest and is most likely the driver that called the exception.
