Freeware: Xenocode Virtual Application Studio: or related: U

May 11, 2008 1:12PM PDT

Hi all;
I am trying to do two things.
First, I want to get used to virtual application studios, like Xenocode. I need one that is freeware, it must be freeware, please.
Second, i want to get used to Ubunto or a similar Linux distro by playing with it and using it, for free, as a freeware.
Could anyone show me a link to freeware Xenocode virt. studio app, or something very similar?
Could someone show me an easy to install on XP application which has Ubuntu as a file/application?
Thanks, and Very Best!

Try VMWare Server...

It doesn't have every feature of Xenocode, but it's free and, using it, you can install Ubuntu into a virtual machine and run it from within Windows XP. You can carry the VM with you on a flash drive and run it on any computer with VMWare's virtualization software installed, and you can access it over the intranet/internet if you enable XP's Remote Desktop features.

Hope this helps,
John

In addition to John's advice

I would also suggest something like a Knoppix Live CD.

Knoppix is a Linux distro that you can burn to a CD and run the CD on reboot. It will load Knoppix from the CD without touching any Windows installation. It's a good way to learn more about Linux.

Xenocode:VMWare:Knoppix: Thanks A Lot: I'm Still Interested

Dear John and mark;
You're great and I love it. I am not entirely advanced in computer use, and I will look into these answers.
I am still interested, if there is more information, please present it.
All who reply are deeply thanked!
Best!
KEEP IT COMING!

Ubuntu runs from CD as well...

Ubuntu can be run entirely from CD as well, and you'll automatically be given that option instead of installing. The downside is that you lose the ability to run both Windows and Ubuntu at the same time (like you can with a virtual machine), but you can click here to learn how to save your settings using a LiveCD.
