Freeware/Open Source Video Capture Software?

Oct 28, 2007 8:38AM PDT

Hello everyone!

I was curious as to whether there are any good freeware or open source video capture agents.

I want a program that will let me capture videos when I play games. Most of the programs I have seen so far are limited trials. Is there any good software to capture what you see on our screen that is free?

Thanks!

VirtualDub

I have heard many mention VirtualDub for this. I have never used it for capture, but it may be what you're looking for. It won't hurt to try.

Would work for a console...
Nov 1, 2007 4:33AM PDT

I think this software would work for capturing video from a console, since it captures from external video sources.

However, I'm looking for an software that will capture the screen action on my computer. This software will not work for that.

Thank for you the suggestion, however.

Anyone else have any ideas?

FRAPS is common.

The version I know of just watermarks until you pay but it works and is free to use.

Excellent program but caps at 30 secs...
Nov 2, 2007 6:35AM PDT

FRAPS is very nice indeed, except it caps video capture at 30 seconds.

I could live with a watermark or something relatively unobtrusive like that. Just as long as the program does have a cap on recording (unless the cap is like 30 minutes or something) and doesn't expire after a certain period of time I'd be good to go.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for the help!

What You Can Use is Screen-O-Matic
Jan 28, 2015 10:29PM PST

You can make an AVI or MP4 of your computer game play screen in almost any size that you desire with Screen-O-Matic. However, I am having trouble with Screen-O-Matic in the replay audio quality. Have to use a "mike" and take the game audio while recording the screen video. This can be done with Screen-O-Matic. Don't let the quirky name fool you!
