Freespire Linux

by rich322 / February 16, 2011 2:28 AM PST

I saw an article on cnet a few years ago about a Mirus PC that was reasonably priced. It offered either a windows operating system or a Linux based system,so I went for it,since my old pc was getting a bit outdated.
I opted for the Linux Freespire version, that was new to me,It has worked fairly well, that is until the CNR program, that updated the programs went offline without warning, and was sold, leaving a sorta newbie like me,unable to even update the browser. So,I am wondering,is there any more of the Freespire system that my pc came with,or is it no longer around? Would I be better off going to a windows based system,or is there a Linux system that is available, that a sort of newbie, like me might be able to use despite my not being a tech wiz?

Not to duplicate the Ubuntu web site about getting the CD or how to install but I have one question.

Why do you need to update that web browser? Did it stop working?

My Firefox browser is 2.0.0.6
More sites are requiring a newer updated version.
I have tried to install the updated version,to no avail.
The operating system that I have, had a program called,CNR,that installed the updated program
without any difficulties, but the site that provided CNR was sold at some point, and they killed
the CNR program. So I am unble to update anything at this point.

It's time to go with something else. Try Ubuntu; freespire was suppose to have been base on that. PClinuxOS is what I use.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
