I am celebrating my 2year contract aggrement date today with Nextel that became Sprint. I called their customer service and am happy to report that after being on hold for 20 minutes, having poor cellular service and poor customer service for 2 years that I have finally closed one of the worst cell phone accounts I have ever had!
I was originally transferred to some Asian outpost but finally found Sierra. Customer Service Assosiate Sierra handled my call with the same poor service I have been recieving all year. With her bitter attitude and bossy tone it was a long and deliberate affair that ended in my puric victory!
My story has more history to it and is very ironic: Back in the day I had my first cellular service, the provider none-other-than SPRINT, and needless to say it was an aweful experience. My service coverage was good to fair most of the time but nonexistant at and near my apartment. I would have to take walks in order to retrieve voicemails, return calls and take calls. I was nearing my lease termination date and decided to wait it out, so it goes. I moved to a beautiful condo on the beach and to no avail my cell phone again decided not to work at my residence.
After a long scoreless battle against customer service I finally snapped. I was at my expiration period and preparing to cancel my service over the phone. I waited the remainder of my contract (one more month) and even threw a BIG BASH for the event. Hold the PHONE- for some reason I kept receiving bills after I had signed with AT&T (another less then stellar service provider). I then called the so-called "customer service" only to be told that the person assisting me had renewed my contract. Another series of scoreless battles and I finally just said "F IT!" and paid the hefty $250 early cancellation fee.
Another couple of years go by with my new provider and I have the same problems with them not allowing me out of my "contract". These guys are worse than the freagin MAFIA. After I finally shake AT&T I decide to go with this word of mouth "AWESOME" service known as NEXTEL.
At first NEXTEL was proving to be pretty good. My phone worked right up until its first hurricane (south Florida). After this event my cell phone would never fully recover. I even took it to the "phone doctor" who said, "get a new phone."
Later that day when I got home I decided to go on the internet and review my NEXTEL account only to discover...
(dramatic music cues now)
SPRINT is now the new owner of NEXTEL. "What, this can't be true?" I asked my coworkers. One of my coworkers even replied, "it's true, and they suck from what I hear."
Well, I again held out for this special day when I could be, Mel Gibson said it best in Brave Heart, "FREE!"
They can never take our freedom...
But they can take our money!
