free screenshots software

Can anybody advise me on free screenshots software which captures in JPEG and is simple to use. I want to capture stills from my DVD's so that I can print same on the DVD's I produce as a hobbyist.

the problem here is the "free". If you find it let me know. Windows Movie Maker used to have this feature (not sure it was JPEG format but you can occassionlly find file converters that are free) but I never could get it to work with DVD files directly. I'm sure a search engine will get you a lot of hit's but I've never found one that's free......

vlc can play dvds and take screenshots
