Free or cheap software/program for recording streaming music

Hello, all!

I have a Dell Inspiron E1405 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. For some reason, programs like Audacity and mp3mymp3 will not record streaming audio as the programs don't recognize my soundcard (or something like that).

So, my question is, does anyone know of a free or cheap (I'm only a poor college student program that can record whatever is coming out of your speakers, whether it be online or not? I could really use some help with this!!! I don't know if this is the right forum to post it in, but I'm giving it a try. Thanks in advance!!!

Most of the time I find the owner didn't read how to use it. They didn't know how to set Audacity to record so they thought it didn't work. No one said it was drop dead easy.

It could be Vista as we read http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html so be sure you don't pay for such software until you know it works. But even then the number of times I find the owner not knowing how to run the software is too often.
