Free LAN messenger

Am in need of free LAN messenger that with remote desktop function. Currently I'm evaluating BigAnt messenger, anyone has suggestion or recommendation based on experience, Thank you.

For example Windows has that remote desktop feature and instant messaging apps are plentiful. For example we use skype here.
