"Free" be aware

free is a word to be concerned with. I was reading a post and trying to respond when I lost the post.
Mainly folks , you need to be aware of the word free!

everyone reading these post are not experts in computers.

This post is for the newbie and those that are not quite informed(as of yet).. dont trust the word free
also if you dont have countless hours to search the web
and self help forums.. and you have dial up because you cant afford broadband. dont feel at a loss, everyone has to start somewhere. if you dont have the money and or time etc please follow these steps

go to download.com and get these free programs
actually these free ones are ok.
1 ad aware
2 spyware blaster
3 spybot search and destroy
4 mozilla, firefox browser it's easy
5 tweaknow reg cleaner

this will help you temendously.. not everyone in these forums are for the little guy. or gal..
please feel free to e mail me direct if searching the forums is to time consuming. happy new year

Just because a program is free doesn't always mean there's some kind of hidden catch to using it. There's a huge amount of open source software which is quality stuff, lacking in any kind of spyware, and still completely free.

It's kind of unfortunate that a lot of programs these days advertise themselves as freeware when they're loaded with all kinds of spyware which you're never told about. Hopefully there will soon be a law against that, but don't let the actions of a few jackasses taint your views of freeware in general.

Someone actually started a website devoted to just such a thing. Freeware software, for Windows, without any spyware or other garbage. You can find it here: CleanSoftware.org
