Free AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

by Big Steve / June 15, 2007 5:18 PM PDT

I downloaded and installed the free version of AVG anti-spyware 7.5 last month through CNET's download site but for the last 3 days I have not been able to receive their updates. Has anyone else who has this software experienced this same problem?

I receive a message which says unable to receive updates; server error problem. I have this software installed on 2 Dell computers and I get the same error message on both computers. I also have the free version of AVG anti-virus software on both computers but it's working fine; no problems with that; just the AVG anti-spyware 7.5 which is not able to receive updates.

To answer your question checking under properties all it says is AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 which I downloaded from CNET on May 09, 2007. If you recommend that I download and install the latest version of the software will I first have to uninstall the version I have installed on my computer?

Just removed the old version; downloaded and installed the new version on this Dell desktop; will do the same for the notebook. How did you know that there was a new version? Are you signed up with AVG to receive email updates as their software updates? Thanks for letting me know about the newer version.

Has the free AVG anti-virus also come out with a newer version? I just checked and mine says it's version V-269.8.17/850 and it also says that it was released yesterday; June 15, 2007 so I guess I'm OK with the free AVG AV; all that needed updating was my free AVG anti-spyware software.

If you would check my previous post where I listed my current version of AVG's free AV software which according to my records went into effect yesterday; Friday; June 15, 2007 but if what I have at the moment isn't the latest I'll change it later today. You recommend that I make the change on both of my computers? Advise whenever you can.

269.8.17/850 is the definition version
by Donna Buenaventura / June 15, 2007 11:18 PM PDT

Open AVG Antivirus' Control Center to find the program version. At the bottom or by clicking Information menu. You should see 7.5.472 as program version then you will see 269.8.17/850 as the definition version.

Yes, it is recommended to upgrade to the latest of AVG because it has "Small improvements in update process." as per Grisoft: http://free1.grisoft.com/doc/39804/lng/us/tpl/v5

Before I upgrade my free AVG AV software will I need to do an uninstall of the old and then download and install the new version or can I go ahead and download and install the new version of the free AVG AV software right on top of my older version?

At the moment I am now on my Dell notebook doing an install of the newer version of AVG's free anti-spyware. I like this stuff; should I consider at some point purchasing the version with more features or just stay with the free version of AVG's anti-spyware software? Advise whenever you can.

You can download the new installer of AVG AV free then install on top of existing version. It is the version anyway (v7.5). The only changes is the build # which is 472.

"At the moment I am now on my Dell notebook doing an install of the newer version of AVG's free anti-spyware. I like this stuff; should I consider at some point purchasing the version with more features or just stay with the free version of AVG's anti-spyware software? Advise whenever you can."

Please go to http://free1.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5 and you will see a table of comparison for AVG AV.
Then in http://free1.grisoft.com/doc/20/lng/us/tpl/v5 to see "What you do not get" with free AVG Antispyware.

If you feel you need the options that is not available in freeware versions of Grisoft products, you can try the paid version by downloading the trial version then decide if you will go to Paid products.

But if the free AVG AS and AVG AV is doing well in your system and you are satisfied with it and also, if you do not need the features offered in paid, I say stay with what you have right now Happy

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
