None of the av progs you install on that laptop will work well without the ability to update the virus def files.
They will work but just use the old def files that you installed.
Hello,
I am currently a Peacecorps volunteer in West Africa. I am leaving soon, and I have recently given my village an old laptop (they have electricity, the laptop uses windows).
I want to put some free anti-virus software on the computer because people will be using them with their USB sticks, and most of the USB sticks around here have a lot of viruses. There is no internet access on the laptop though, so I cannot download it onto the computer, and the computer will not be able to update the virus software once installed.
So I plan on downloading an anti-virus software onto my current laptop and then putting this software on a USB key to install in the old Laptop.
Do you guys know what software I could use? I looking into AVG but they said in order for it to work it would have to have access to internet. I got this as a response: "Hello Calder,
We are sorry to inform that the AVG program will not work to its full potential without the latets virus definition updates, for the updates, it needs the internet connection. So, to be clear, the AVG program cannot be used without internet access.
Thank you."
Although from that response it isn't clear that it would not work, just that it wouldn't work well, but then they say it just wouldn't work, anyway I am a little confused. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Calder
