Some things that can cause this

Older MBs with batteries failing where features have been disabled or customized can return to default settings generating such messages. BIOS updates can cause this too. You didn't mention if Windows successfully installed what it found but you should be able to look in device manager for anything that wasn't properly configured. Anything there?

Hello Stephen

Many thanks for your reply thread. You mentioned older MBs with battries. Forgive me but I have no idea what MBs with battries mean. I checked the device manger but everything seems to be ok except that my web cam may be the culprit because of the fact that I Could not get a preview from it. At the time of writing this thread I checked it again and found it to be working. Further on a few occasions I found that system drivers failed to load whilst booting up and/or takes a long time to bootup. I can't say whether windown successfully installed any hardware but I have not seen the wizard in recent bootups. One other thing is that I can't get into the bios F8 or F2 does not work. I am using a multimedia keyboard (USB) I wonder If I should try a PS2.

I shall be grateful if you can advise me with respect to the above and what does MBs means as well as to let me know if there is a program that can diagnose my system problems. I am really at sea here.

Thanking you,

standeb

MB means motherboard and it's the main circuit board in your computer. It has a battery that backs up what's called the CMOS which contains information about attached hardware and any custom settings that have been made to it. When the battery gets weak, sometimes these settings get lost and some may return to "default". This could result in a hardware change that Windows notices and will attempt to find a driver. If it can't find the driver, Windows will tell you so. If you ignore the message, Windows will continue to nag at each restart unless you install a driver or disable the unconfigured device. Devices that are found but don't have drivers can be seen with a yellow exclamation mark in device manager. That's the long answer. It does sound as thought you have an older system if it doesn't support a USB keyboard in the BIOS. Yes, for these a PS2 is needed to get into those settings. You mentioned a web cam and your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not it could be the culprit. One way to test the idea is to leave it disconnected over several restarts and see if the message goes away. Re-connect it and see if the message reappears. Another tip about USB is that Windows will detect when an already configured device is moved from one USB port to another. You may see the "found new hardware" message when this happens but Windows will already have the driver and not ask for one. Good luck.

New Found Hardware Problem

Hello Stephen,

Thank you for your reply. The same was most educational to me. I found the culprit. It was indeed my webcam. I disconnected and reconnected same. The same works good for the moment. I also used a PS2 Keyboard and was able to get into the bios. The USB keyboard now works as well. I have not seem the new hardware message.

Thank you again for your kind assistance with best wishes to you.
