Found updated Video Card BIOS....

Apr 27, 2004 4:34PM PDT

Hello. I found an updated video BIOS for my Winfast GeForce2 MX Max (MX 400) from Leadtek, but it's not from Leadtek's site. I found it on a website that has a lot of info on NVidia cards and offers other BIOS updates as well. I've used XBios editor to match the BIOS I already have, and it checks out perfectly on Leadtek's BIOS update program. Should I use the update? My video card works fine, I just like to keep it updated as much as possible.

Can not say for every maker but for my vid card if I visit the makers web site and look in the drivers/download area they give a step by step on how to flash THEIR bios.

Will the update provide more compatibility and speed? I found the update at http://www.whitebunny.net. This site has a lot of info on the latest cards, but they are general BIOS, not from the manufacturers, but from NVidia.

No. It won't.

In your first post, you revealed you were not having problems. So compatibiltiy is not an issue.

As to speed, video card "bios" are rarely used once Windows and the video card drivers are loaded.

My answer is even if you changed just the BIOS, the benchmarks should be the same.

You pretty much answered your own question, "My video card works fine". Find out what the update does before actually updating to see if you'll benefit from it. You can always do it later should the situation change. Nvida offers alot of updates for various models and once you see that, you wonder why so many are available, it was hardly the case some years back for any video updates or drivers, but there were some.

"If it ain't broke...don't fix it.".... is something all of us should have tatoo'd on our foreheads backwords so we can see it every morning when we look in the mirror!! (Would have saved me much money and frustration in my lifetime.)
