Issues I have :-)
Apr 22, 2005 5:29AM PDT

Hi Lee,

I've been doing my "usual thing" in the forums today, and these are the problems I have with the new design:

1. Long links (I think) cause the text area to stretch, which means I have to scroll side-to-side as well as up and down. Not good.

2. The "(See Profile)" links add clutter and are redundant, as clicking on the poster's name located right next to this link takes you to the same page.

3. The NEW tag is also redundant, since message marking works, anything that's lit up red or yellow is "new" to someone reading. It also causes misalignment of the post highlight box in the message tree, and text runs over on top of other text.

4. Going to a link that leads to a deleted post results in some mangled page that won't fully load.

5. There's a thread in SE that is "broken" and I'm not sure what the problem is, but the text box is huge, the messages won't mark for me no matter how many times I read them, the message tree has text overlapping on other text, and the entire thread isn't visible, and there seems to be no way to make it visible. It's

I'm using Firefox.

Hope this helps!

Hi Cindi,

I think everyone that is useing Firefox has problems with the new format. I switched to IE and tried it, and everything worked fine in IE except the font was too small. But similar problems with Firefox. The only way I could get the new format to work correctly in Firefox was to make the font even smaller, and then could barely read it. This older format works just fine with the exception of the Main Forum Page, and at the top where it has Welcome to CNet, the text and search function overlap, which may still be part of the new format ,as it was ok before the change.

Forum Redesigned Today or a Bad April Fools Joke Late?
Apr 22, 2005 1:51PM PDT

Lee, I have noticed a slight improvement in the look of the CNET Forum redesign today. The two Preview and Cancel button Icons are back to a deep cranberry color instead of the washed out yellows that were there yesterday.
Also the type size it seems to be back to a readable size.
Have you seen any slowdown that I have noticed tonight switching between the forums? Also that obnoxious header taking longer than usual to display?
The yellow mustard screen hanging for about 5 seconds before going to the next screen?
Before this new lousy design, it used to switch instantly. I wonder what the hang up is?
Seems like the vast majority thinks this new re-design is lousy.
Was this an April Fools Joke that was really posted late?

Too Late : (

I need to visit the forums more often. It seems like I must of missed some of the problems some of the readers are/were having?

Forum redesign
Apr 23, 2005 3:45AM PDT

Well....while design can help make a site more pleasant,I don't see any problems that affect my joy at the absolutely wonderful advice we get from these moderators and contributors. They have saved my tail many times and provided advice that I just found while browsing thru.I don't even have to post usually because I find what I need in the discussions. Thanks guys no matter what the design is.

Lee - let me be quite blunt
Apr 26, 2005 11:31PM PDT

I really am having trouble reading the fonts - so much so it is becoming quite a strain - perhaps you are young and dont understand - you see Lee, once a person reaches 40 and has to wear glasses, no matter what strength the glasses are 20/20 vision for all focal lengths can become an impossibility.
Put quite frankly, I spend many hours assisting people with problems on CNET forum but will be unable to continue if the new fonts size remain.
Regards,
Peter
