Former Illinois Republican Gov. Ryan indicted for corruption.

IMO, a well deserved event. There have been something like 55 convictions of lesser officials in a scheme where truck drivers licenses were being sold. One of the results was a fiery collision in which six children were burned to death.

Again IMO, Ryan, who had no chance of reelection, cleared out the Illinois death row, in a bid for a Nobel peace prize. He was nominated, and almost won. I think he did it in a cynical bid to avoid this prosecution.

Kudos to President Bush, AG Ashcroft, and Republican Senator Fitzgerald who left the US Attorney in place to pursue this indictment. IMO, a similar event would not have happened under Bill Clinton who, you may recall, fired every one of the sitting US Attorneys when he took office.

I am proud to say I voted for the Democrat, Glen Poushard (SP?) when Ryan won the Governor's mansion. Too many Democrats preferred Ryan to the conservative Poushard.
