Formatting the Info button display?

Feb 10, 2009 8:13AM PST

Hi -

I have the PN50A650 plasma TV and noticed on page 19 of the manual that the Info button on the remote is capable of displaying all sorts of information (date, time, input source, channel number, program name, aspect ratio, etc.). Mine only displays the time and screen resolution. Is there some way I can display more of this information? Is there some setup or formatting I am missing? I have been through the manual a couple of times and can't find any reference to it other than page 19. Is this a function of my cable company? Sure would be nice to see this little "scoreboard" synopsis.

doodle60,

I'm looking into this. I should have an answer shortly.

doodle60,

It depends on which source you're using.

The manual displays what the television is capable of showing if the information is being sent. In the case of the tuner, it will show that information if the broadcaster is sending it. In the case that you're using a cable box where the picture is being sent through a non-tuner input, that functionality is limited to the signal, time and sometimes Hz. rating.

Hope that helps.

Hi HDTech -

Thanks for the response, but I'm a little confused.

I am using a cable box (Time Warner), but I lose you when you say "where the picture is being sent through a non-tuner input,". I have the cable box connected to the TV via HDMI cable, specifically HDMI jack #3 on the TV rear panel. I don't really know why I chose #3 other than the fact that it was at the top of the HDMI input stack. Are you saying the HDMI jacks are "non-tuner inputs"? If so, what would be an example of a "tuner input"? Would it make a difference relative to my initial question if I plugged the HDMI cable from the cable box into HDMI jack #1 on the back of the TV?

doodle60,

I should have clarified. The tuner inputs would be limited to the co-ax, where the ATSC, NTSC or QAM tuner can pass that kind of information. That information can't be passed through the HDMI, unless it's processed and sent by the cable box.

I hope that helps.
