Not Clear What The Issue Is

Most Windows 8 computers have a temporary black screen, maybe a POST type screen, before the login screen pops up. Can you then login and everything works fine? Or are you saying the login screen never appears? Unfortunately, you haven't told us much about the computer.. Brand name? Laptop or desktop? Windows 8 or 8.1? Why did you format the computer? What kind of problems were occurring?

Also, although you didn't say it, I'll guess you didn't just "format the pc" but also installed the operating system, etc.? Was the a reinstall using a recovery partition or did you reinstall the OS using a Windows 8 disk? Installed all the drivers too?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Thanks for the reply, I installed the windows 8.1 as I had before.

It is not a laptop.

I formatted the computer because I thought it would solve the problem.

I get to the login screen where I can enter my password.

Not Sure Anything Is Wrong

In reply to: Hello

Upon startup, if there is a short black screen, then the login screen loads, then you can login and everything works fine, then I see nothing wrong.

Still, you may have tinkered with the "Fast Startup" option which could be causing the black screen. See the link below to enable or disable the "Fast Startup" option.

Or maybe you want a different "Lock" or "start" screen to load first instead of the black screen. (It sounds like you're referring to the "Lock" screen. See the link below for doing so.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
