Reinstalling Windows XP...
by John.Wilkinson / February 5, 2006 10:18 AM PST

It sounds like you want to start over with a fresh installation of Windows XP, wiping out everything that's there now. If that's the case you can click here for step-by-step instructions, along with select screenshots down the left-hand side. Just make sure you have backed up all of your files as this will leave nothing behind.

Hope this helps,

yes I want to start with a clean install. I tried starting from a boot floopy but it skipped it and then I tried hitting pause/break and putting in my operating cd, but it went straight to which operating system I wanted.

when I try to format in dos I get the following. Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Format may run if this volume is dismounted first.
Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)
I put in y and it still wont format
