Format problems with Mail

Feb 23, 2011 7:52AM PST

I am using Mail 4.4 on OS X 10.6.6. When I compose a message, whether I type it directly into an outgoing Mail message or cut and paste from Word, Mail puts a considerable amount of space between paragraphs. It looks like a double carriagereturn/linefeed but it is only a single carriagereturn/linefeed. How can I tighten this up to look like normal paragraph spacing?

Does the problem occur in both plain text and rich text formats?

Yes, the same problem with plaintext and RTF.

Is there any possibility you have changed the standard fonts in Mail preferences?

Note: Cutting and pasting from Word will often cause unexpected consequences so you need to be testing this with a bog-standard Mail new message screen. Extra spacing in Word is usually caused by the leading, which is set in Format->Paragraph - space before or space after.
