If the drives are seagates I might run them in a test rig for a day and check the SMART values for issues in 01 and 07 values but that's an exception because of too many showing up with issues over the past few years.
Your choice on this work is the right answer.
So i purchased another mediasonic HUR5-SU3 2 bay enclosure with hardware raid buit in. I have had another one of these HUR5-SU3 for about a year now using raid 0 with no issues at all. My question is do i just take the drives out of the packaging, stick them in the enclosure, hold the little button for raid 0, and be done with it? Or should i put them in the drives, set them to single disks, format them, then change the raid configuration to raid 0 on the back of the device? Or pop the drives in configured to raid 0 then do a format while they are in raid 0? And no i cant remember what i did last time lol.
I know if i do a full format on the drives it checks for errors and i know i am starting out on the right foot. Then i will hopefully have no issues down the road finding out some of the sectors or something is bad on one of the drives.
Thank you in advance,
Shane
