Question

Format and reinstall of XP

by Beezer30 / July 3, 2011 11:41 PM PDT

Good morning,

My sister wants mr to help her reinstall XP on her system.

The problem is, she does not have a driver disc for her motherboard.

What is the best method for dealing with this?

Can you save the drivers to a USB stick first? Or get a model of motherboard and download?

Is this a brand name system?

If it is, it may have a recovery partition and all of the original drivers. If not, and if you know the MB brand, model and rev. #, you may be able to find what you need at the manufacturer's web site. More about what you have in the way of hardware might be helpful .

My sister wrote and the only information she had was that it is an Acer.

I'll have to get more info when she brings it over

Ok, I have the laptop with me now.

It is an Acer 4630Z.

Now, there is another issue. It is actually Vista that came with the laptop. After following all of my usual steps for installing XP, the screen just goes blank and the laptop shuts down.

What am I missing?

Most likely the same thing everyone else missed.

Google this: Install XP to a SATA DRIVE.

You find that it's not something that XP does and why folk keep asking how to do that.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
