forgot my password can't use my dell Inspiron 1545

Bit stupid i know. I forgot my password. Can't get past the log on screen, Followed dell online advice to go to F8 System restore, but it won't let me log on as administrator which is essential to restore factory settings. Also tried - several times - with a password unblocker disc, but it won't solve the problem. Does anyone know where I can download a Dell System Restore programme to disc. Dell's advice only works if you are operating a Dell laptop and I can't access ine as I forgot the password so I'm using something else.

Did you try your spare Admin account?

Or the hidden System Administrator account?

What was this 'password blocker disc' you tried?

Did you try NTPASSWD (Google search for that), or ?

password problem

I've been using Ophcrack Win7, but no success. How do I find the hidden System Administrator. I will google NTPASSWD.

I assume you're using Windows

If this is XP, it should appear in the Safe Mode Welcome Screen.

However, I believe with Vista and Windows 7 these hidden accounts are disabled, and the only way to enable them so they are available, is through your own Admin capable account.

Password problem

Yes its Windows7. So I'm back to square one. Went on the site you gave me the link for and will download the solution. All I need now is a recordable CD disk so it will have to wait until the shops open tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. Will let you know what happens

Good luck

Just a note. Remember that the NTPasswd downloaded file is an ISO and will need to be burned to CD as an ISO file, and not just copied as data, otherwise it will not boot up.

Also, once you get your account back, how about creating a new Admin capable account as a backup, in case this happens again, or in case your current profile becomes corrupted?

Password still locked

thanks for the advice. No further forward as no one wants to risk letting me download it to cd on their laptops. But hopefully i have a way around it. friend sending me disc to restore the system. Hoepfully I won't have to give my password before it lets the disc do its job

No you won't

This utility boots from the CD and the boot process doesn't get as far as Windows.
