Ford Taurus 2002 6 cylinder - Cam Sensor

Dec 20, 2007 4:49AM PST

I took my Ford Taurus to the repair shop and was told the Cam Sensor and Synchronizer needed replacement.

I was charged $173.00 for the Cam Sensor and $68.00 for the Synchronizer - Parts only.

Does the price for the Cam Sensor seem a bit high for this year and model?

I looked it up on at a number of different places, and that sensor goes for about $30. You might be wasting your time talking to the dealership, but you might contact Ford directly and ask for verification.

The only thing I can think of is, perhaps the original sensors had problems, and the new redesigned ones cost more, in which case, parts stores would not have them.

Otherwise, someone misquoted a price, or is trying to pull a fast one.

Synchro VS sensor?

You might have those prices reversed, the synchro is usually more than the sensor. At least the last one I replaced.........

In that case....

Never mind. The prices are right in line. $68 is a fair prices for factory certified sensor.

Too much just for parts.

I have a 2002 Taurus and spent $40 for synchronizer at Amazon. But try Advance auto they are at about $70 for the synchronizer. Chech Advance auto for the cam sensor too. I cannot remember the price.

It is not hard to install if you have any basic skills with hand tools.
