ForceShellExecute in Office fixed my problem but WHY?

Sep 22, 2005 3:48AM PDT

I had an issue in Office where I had a hyperlink pointing to a microsoft site with passport logins...it would have a query string on the end of the URL for a saved page....this would always fail and there was some security issue. I changed my registry value in Office for ForceShellExecute to 1 and it solved the problem...IE is my default browser anyway...so why did this allow my link to work properly? It allowed the passport login to work properly+
