Forced to make an update - Java browser update 40

by sa9672 / November 5, 2013 2:37 PM PST

So I get a message while using firefox that I need a java update on my browser. The warning window does not close in spite of having a leave the page button. Even after restarting and deleting temp files, this window has now closed. I feel its malware and my norton antivirus has not worked.

I already feel my yahoo mail has been compromised, I am being asked to suddenly change my password. Please help.

- What's a 'Java browser'?
- If Oracle's Java, the current version is 7.45. So what's that 40?
- Java updates are 'Java updates', not 'Java updates on a browser'.

If you don't need Java, uninstall it. If you need Java update it to version 45. What's the issue here?

Sorry but yahoo email does not require Java.

It might need JavaScript but for most of us, we can uninstall all Java and be safer.

Sorry to hear that. Which version of Norton AntiVirus do you use? Did you try booting into safe mode & then running a full system scan? You may also try to run a scan with Norton Power Eraser tool to check for virus:
