General discussion

for those t5026 owners out there...

if bigfix tells u of an update for ur dvd burner, tsst h552b do not install it. i installed it then my drive ceased workin and had to call emachines twice and took a while for them to answer and 4 days for them to send me a new drive. Do not, i repeat, do not download the firmware.

Emachines sent me a hitachi dvd replacement that i think is found in the t6212. I have discovered that other ppl have had problems with the drive so i again say, Do not download the firmware.

The firmware version is GA04.

mentioned in an older post, by another person, he found out the firmware update burns out the drive, if not installed properly. eMachines advice, don't install it. I repeat don't install it. You have been warned...

So then what do I do
Aug 4, 2005 2:18PM PDT

So I am having problems with my dvd burner in my t5026 desktop. Half of my DVD's stop playing and freeze up about half way through. This new GA04 firmware is supposed to fix that issue. If I am not supposed to download the firmware then how do I fix the problem? I'm not sure it even matters though becauase the gateway server seems to be down so I can't download it from there and Big Fix isn't working either.

Help me if you can please.

If you download it wrong, you will get an error and it basically tells you that the firmware update frys the drive. If this is still under warranty, its time for a call. You could just dl it anyway, if it doesn't work, they'll sned you a new one, but you have to send broken one back. And until they get the defective one back, they charge you a $75.00 deposit.

Download it Wrong?

I'm not sure what you mean by download it wrong but how do you download it correctly to avoid this problem. My computer is still under warranty so I can call if it comes to that.

I dk, my brohter dled it properly, even the dude on the phone said he knows theres a problem and they were working on fixing it. i think its if you have a disc in the drive at the time or not. I forget... My brother regrets getting the t5026, t6212 or t6522 is better. I hate newer and cheaper products. lol.
