General discussion

For the pro, probably not, for the rest of us definately...

Film will only be produced in quantity as long as it is profitable. Kodac has already shown what direction they expect the general consumer market will go.

The general consumer will stick with film only as long as it is easier and cheaper for them to use. With one hour digital printing now available, on line ordering allowing for printing only those prints you want and still picking them up at the local drug store, high quality high megapixal cameras that are increasingly cheaper and cheaper, and on, and on digtal is set to quickly strip away any realistic hold film now holds.

I would expect each new Christmas will exponetially increase the number of digital converts and users. With rate of improvement in gear and ease of use I'm not sure 2010 will see more than the dedicated pro or the nostagic amatuer still using the film.

Don't take me wrong, I will be one of those holding on to his twin lens Yashica, and his ten pound (seemingly) old mechanical Nikon until my kids inherit them. It's just no denying the facts.
