Doesn't that presume the prey can read?

And maybe the dude would see the case of beer inside, pull the rope to trap it and ask the guy behind the tree or rock to help him retrieve it before it escapes.

That's right James, most would get in the trap, close it, sit there and drink the beer. Lift the trap and leave AFTER the beer is all gone.
