General discussion

For Linksys router, google it, many have connection issue

Mar 11, 2005 6:34PM PST

Some of them get connected for 5 minutes, and the other luckily enough get around 2 hours.

Everyone said that they need to turn off eveything (Broadband modem, router and PC) then turn on in order (Broadband modem, router then PC)

Other solution is to clone the mac address and set MTU 1400.

Other simply said change brand..

Other information, Linksys warranty for free exchange is one year, so how old is your router?

That's what I collected from google...

Updating the firmware. But Linksys didn't grasp the market its going into. Most will not want to do this step and will exchange the unit instead.

Well, RP, most of them said they have the latest firmware

My post earlier is just something I collected from google, because I also have same problem which I didn't solved it yet, right now I just turn off everything, wait a few minutes, then turn on the modem, router and pc... in that order...

Oh, I also have the latest firmware.. Happy and I did what people suggested, mac address clone etc. it didn't solve the problem.

My friend down the street, have same hardware, also have the same problem.... My conclusion is either we have bad router or its really the ISP having fun.

Next step is I'm going to try other router (same and/or different brand)

Have a nice weekend

Yes. Try another one. Just FYI...

On my Linksys there were 3 major versions and ... you always wonder what they are doing under the hood.

The common owner can't update firmware. So it's always something to repeat even if they claim they did. Sometimes you have to ask what version they have and see if they updated it months ago...

Then we have the owner that has tweaked and played with TCPIP as well as the router settings... What to do?

Required step of changing hardware...

I just went to my friend house... and he have a new linksys router befsr41... he connected the router, update the firmware (download by connecting directly to the modem), but when he connect through the router, he can not get an IP. Router IP is 0.0.0.0 and the pc is 169 something..

My first thought is, you have to release or wait until the IP lease time expired (wait for a day or more?), before changing/turning on the new hardware... Please correct me if I'm wrong..

Thank you

own setup requirements, as well as any special parameters from the ISP . Check and double check your work on the routers settings then swap it out.

MG, thanks for the info...

My internet connection is using Cable, and there are no special setting on the router that came from the ISP... (I just heard that I need to call the ISP to release and renew the IP.. whenever I change the hardware such as Modem or router)

As for ADSL (which I use in other place) I can just change the modem at will.. (like a dial-up modem)

Thanks again
