Resolved Question

For eMachines desktop T3302, can I add more than 2GB memory?

Jan 15, 2012 2:37AM PST

eMachines customer service says I should not try to use more than 2GB RAM with this computer, which I bought in 2005. However, some computer professionals have told me that there is no reason they can see why I should not add more memory if I choose to. There are two memory card slots. I would like to place a 2GB memory card in each of these, so that I will have 4GB total RAM, rather than just the 2GB I have at present. Is there anything 'bad' that can happen if I use 4GB RAM with this computer? The operating system is Windows XP, sp3. Thanks for all responses.

Ram limits

Since you stated it is a 7yr. old PC, this more than likely suggests the mtrbd. chipset won't allow but per ram slot 1Gb. That's a physical limit imposed by the chipset, etc. When the PC was 1st sold, that may have been alot, but now times have progressed, and your PC has become dated. There is nothing you can do for it. If the website: http://www.crucial.com offers only 1Gb per slot, then it is so. It won't support 2gb, even if it did it will be problematic at best, or simply won't boot with that new ram installed.
