For brbrgtln re CPU benchmarks.

It would be short sighted to try to peg system to what CPU it was equipped with. I have a fine example of a P4 1.9GHz based machine that is a downright slug. A P3 1.0GHz feels quicker.

Here's why in that case. The motherboard was an i845 "special" that allowed us to recycle some expensive (at that time) 512MB SDRAM.

Looking back this wasn't a great idea.

Put that same CPU into a RAMBUS or DDRAM motherboard and its about 2X faster.
