i would also like to point out to everyone that if you are currently running windows (whether it is activated or not) Microsoft is offering win 10 for free as an upgrade, so those who have issues with thier version not being active or are using "cracks" that you no longer need to be breaking the law and are now able to be legit and get a full version of a windows OS for free, then you can use the app mentioned by the OP here to make a flash drive to make a bootable image for install as well as recovery. Thanks, Joe.

not so

though some may slip through the cracks but win10 will not upgrade non genuine operating systems. I have seen dozens of posts in different tech forums where some have tried and failed.

You are actually correct

It was a co-worker who had told me this and I believe him to be credible, but in this rare case when he was wrong it was due to HIS trusted source getting misinformation from a connection INSIDE Microsoft lol. But still, k have seen with my own eyes that some cracks will start/prompt the anytime (I think is what it is) upgrade que to start the download and install of Win 10. Either way, if you have a legit copy, (usually via OEM license) then you will at some point be prompted to recieve Win 10 for free, I guess Micro wants people to have their new OS THAT badly. Such things worry me as that usually indicates the OS is crap, I stopped using it when k found out that a log of all your activities is generated and is able to be viewed by micro, and regardless of their "privacy rules" this means if they can get that info, then anyone such as he government can as well. This isn't bad if you are 100% legit, but if you use p2p crap and are THAT person then you may have some reason for concern. Furthermore as someone who developes new ideas and concepts, I don't want someone at micro to be able to see such stuff and perhaps even steal my ideas.. Just sold food for thought. Cheers everyone, Joe.

non-genuine upgrades

Yes, it will upgrade, regardless whether the windows you're upgrading from is cracked or genuine. This is even something that Microsoft themselves stated.
