Folders moving by itself on server -Please Help??

Feb 16, 2006 4:32AM PST

We have a server (Windows server 2003), 10 computers are on that network.(with windows xp).
For past 1 month, some of the folders are moving to another location.
Let me give an example -
On our network drive G:
some folders are created, and in those folders couple of subfolders are there.
Network drive - G
Folder A, B, C, D, E on network.
B moves to A(with all the subfolders), C moves to A(with all the subfolders).
It has been happening for past 1 month, I don't think anyone is moving these folders, as when I get them back to their original folder it takes lot of time...why would someone take sooo long to just move folder and there isn't any reason to do...(if they do..is there a way to find out from the server..any log)...if its not physically done...do you think its a virus...AVG is installed on server ..not detecting any virus....PLEASE HELP , IT IS VERY ANNOYING TO NOT FIND FOLDERS WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO!!

You could enable AUDITING?

Then you'll know who did it.

Check your backup scripts...

and logon scripts and any scheduled tasks that may be running on any of the connected computers because what you described isn't going to happen on its own.

Someone has made an error in something they wrote or scheduled somewhere along the line.

Thanx for the prompt response

I am not too much of a tech savvy person (still learning).

How and where can I see the scheduled tasks....
Do you think it could be a virus?? Anyone ever had this problem?

Is it possible that the virus or script is actually not running on server but on other people's computer but acting on the serevr because the folder is moving on the netwrok drive.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanx in advance!
