Microsoft never fixed Windows (this version) to run for long periods of use without issue. The legacy of the 64 thousand byte resource pools are most likely a factor.
There is no cure for this issue. Microsoft will not be issuing a patch.
You can read the MEMORY and OPTIMIZING WINDOWS articles at http://www.aumha.org/articles.htm to extend the amount of time between reboots.
You will also be parasite free. Here's a note I write about this -> Parasite removal programs.
http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-6132-0.html?forumID=32&threadID=1313&start=0 notes the five scanning tools and removal tools that are fairly safe. If one does encounter an issue, its always been damage done by the MALWARE. The most common issue being Layered Service Provider replacement which you can use LSPFIX (Hint: use http://www.google.com to find).
The thread has follow on discussions about new links if you don't want to use Google to find an item.

PS. All the tools are free.
Using Windows ME [with Explorer/Outlook Express Ver. 6.0]
Having problems possibly of a couple of times a day opening folders in "My Documents" [such as ones containing photo images]. When you double click on the folder I find they are are frozen!
I can correct the problem temporary using Ctrl+Alt+Del and then reboot the computer.
After computer comes up I find they are then all OK to open, until I have the same problem return.
Comments would be appreciated,
