Question

focus problems

Apr 28, 2014 11:57PM PDT

Just getting around to editing a lot of video I took of a 36-hour class I taught a while ago. Used 5 cameras, 3 Canons, a Sony, and a Panasonic. Was disappointed to see the focus on two Canon HFG10s go in and out. Pretty sure I had both cameras on manual mode, shooting at a high quality and 30 fps, with auto focus and face detection. One was pointed at a group of students, the other was pointed at me in front of a wall of wall charts with words on them. Was it face detection that threw it off? Thanks in advance.

Answer
Poor auto focus

Auto focus is a compromise, so lock the focus in Manual and back off the Zoom to give a slightly wider picture. Auto focus is helped with good lighting so inside shots may cause a problem.
