Question

FLV by Kotato maxes CPU causes overheating

Mar 7, 2016 8:16PM PST

Hi,

I have some video files that I want to convert to MP4.
I downloaded FLV Converter ( By Kotato) at CNET.
During the conversion process my CPU rapidly hits 100% load on all for cores and they rapidly heat up at about 1/2 degree Fahrenheit per second (according to Core Temp 1.0) resulting in a shut down due to over heating. This is the only time I have experienced this.
System info; Win7, AMD 4100 FX 3.8 ghz CPU, 8 Gig RAM on a MSI 99XA-GD55 mobo.

Yes my fans are working, the heat exchanger is clean and I have thermal paste applied correctly Happy

Is this typical of this type of software? If so is there anyway to throttle down the CPU demands of the software? If not, can you recommend a better choice?

Handbrake also maximizes the CPU cores for fastest transcoding. If your PC isn't able to handle a full load you try the core reduction until you can have your PC repaired or improved.
